Dog Neuter

Definition

Castration is the surgical removal of the testicles. Such surgery is performed to eliminate sexual activities and render the dog sterile.
Castration usually, but not always reduces a dog’s tendency to roam and fight. The general level of aggression may also be reduced.
However, castration is not a replacement for obedience training by the owner.

Surgical Procedure

  • Preoperative physical
  • Recovery is generally uneventful, and the hospital stay is fairly short.
  • The patient is prepped, placed under general anesthetic and a heart monitor is attached.
  • The doctor makes a small incision just forward of the scrotum.
  • The testicles are removed.
  • Then two layers of sutures are sewn in, one internal with dissolving thread and an external.
  • Then your pet is allowed to wake up gently with one of our staff present.
  • After a few hours of recovery they are allowed to leave.
  • In ten days time post-operation the external sutures have to be removed.

Please call if you have any Questions or concerns about having your male dog neutered.

Appointment needs to be made 24 hours prior to surgery, the dog(s) must be fasted over night.
